Bangladesh Return to International Cricket Against Pakistan in Mirpur ODI

Ahead of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, Bangladesh national cricket team and Pakistan national cricket team are facing each other in a three-match ODI series with the goal of reorganizing their squads. The first match of the series will be held on Wednesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. As this is the first bilateral series after the World Cup period, both teams are viewing it as an opportunity for a fresh start.

Pakistan has brought several new faces to this series. The 15-member squad includes six uncapped cricketers, most of whom are top-order batters. It is believed that this decision has been taken as part of the team’s rebuilding process after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

On the other hand, Bangladesh is returning to international cricket after nearly three months. During this period, due to various political tensions, they could not participate in the World Cup. As a result, this series has created new enthusiasm within the team.

The Bangladesh team may feature a new combination in the middle order this time. Litton Das and Afif Hossain have returned to the ODI squad after a long time. The coaching staff believes that Litton’s ability to handle spin bowling could bring stability to the team during the middle overs.

At the start of Bangladesh’s innings, the responsibility will lie on openers Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar. If they provide a quick start, the middle order consisting of Litton, Afif, and Najmul Hossain Shanto will get the opportunity to carry the innings forward.

Team captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz will also play an important role as an all-rounder. In the bowling department, Bangladesh’s strength lies mainly in pace attack. Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Rishad Hossain may handle most of the overs. In addition, Miraz and Tanvir Islam will be in the spin department. If necessary, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana are ready to support the pace attack.

Since Pakistan’s squad includes six new cricketers, it has created huge curiosity among fans. In the top order, Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, and Shamil Hussain are likely to play. Among them, Farhan scored the highest runs for the team in the recent T20 World Cup.

Due to the inexperience in the top order, the responsibility of the middle order will increase on Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha.

Team captain Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the attack with the new ball. He will be supported by Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim Jr. Although the spin attack is relatively less experienced, Abrar Ahmed could play an important role.

Spinners usually play a greater role on the Mirpur pitch. In the last ODI series held here, about 84 percent of the total bowling was done by spinners. In one match, the West Indies national cricket team bowled their entire 50 overs with spin. However, the coaches of both teams have said that this time the wicket is somewhat improved and may also be helpful for batting.

According to the weather forecast, there is also a possibility of early rain during the afternoon on the match day.

Statistics show that in the last ODI series at home against Pakistan, Bangladesh won 3–0. However, in the past two years Pakistan has won five bilateral ODI series, while Bangladesh has won only two.

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz said that despite missing the World Cup, there is a positive atmosphere in the team’s dressing room and the players are excited to return to international cricket.

On the other hand, Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi said that Pakistan has traditionally been a pace-bowling team and more emphasis will be placed on the pace attack in this series as well.
