Mahbub ul Alam, the Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has said that no government order (GO) will be issued by the government for Bangladeshi journalists to travel to India to cover the T-20 World Cup. He also said that if journalists are personally satisfied about security, the government has no objection to their travel to India.
About one hundred journalists from Bangladesh applied for ICC accreditation for the T-20 World Cup. However, after the Bangladesh team withdrew from the World Cup, everyone’s accreditation was initially canceled. Later, ICC restarted the accreditation process and re-accredited many Bangladeshi journalists.
Responding to a question on Thursday about whether journalists who received accreditation today can go to India, Sports Secretary Mahbub ul Alam said, “If ICC has given accreditation, then the decision is up to you. No GO will be issued from the government. If you are sure about security, then you can go.”
He also said that the decision not to allow the cricket team to go to India was made due to specific security concerns. In the case of cricket, the threat issue mainly arose around Mustafizur Rahman. That is why the matter was reviewed separately.
