The Bangladesh Army conducted a special operation at Dhaka’s Airport Railway Station on Sunday morning, seizing a cache of foreign-made firearms and explosives, according to a press release from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Acting on specific intelligence, the army—assisted by intelligence agencies and the Railway Police—carried out a targeted search of a compartment on the Bonolota Express train arriving from Rajshahi.
During the operation, security personnel recovered eight foreign-made pistols, 16 firearm magazines, 26 rounds of ammunition, 2.39 kilograms of gunpowder, and 2.23 kilograms of plastic explosives.
Four individuals suspected of involvement in acquiring and transporting the illegal weapons and explosives were detained and handed over to the police for preliminary interrogation, the ISPR release added.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the source of the weapons and their intended use.
