Schoolgirl Stabbed to Death Outside Her Residence

Schoolgirl Shahriar Sharmin Binti was hacked to death in the Rayerbazar area of the capital. Hazaribagh Police Station suspects that a young man killed her over a romantic relationship. Police are searching for the young man. The incident occurred around 10:00 pm on Wednesday in an alley of the area.

Binti was an eighth-grade student at Rayerbazar High School. She lived with her family in a rented house in Hazaribagh. At Dhaka Medical College Hospital, her father Bellal Hossain and mother Nadia were seen crying and running about after losing their daughter. Businessman Bellal said that at night Binti went outside with her younger brother Nabil. Shortly afterward, hearing commotion, he came downstairs and saw that unknown persons had hacked his daughter and left her there. She was quickly taken to Shikder Medical College Hospital and later brought to Dhaka Medical. Their residence is on the fifth floor of a five-story building in an alley beside Haider Hotel in Rayerbazar. Among their two children, Binti was the elder. Their village home is in Kachikata of Sakhhipur upazila in Shariatpur.

Nadia told journalists, “At night Binti and her brother Nabil went downstairs. After buying vegetables, Nabil escorted his sister to the front of the house and then went to the mosque. Later, hearing noise, I went down and saw many people surrounding Binti.” She alleged that a young man named Siam hacked Binti and fled. She said, “For three to four years, Siam had been harassing Binti on her mobile phone. One day I scolded Siam over the phone. Today he killed my daughter. I want justice for my daughter’s murder.”

Inspector Md. Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Binti had multiple injuries on her shoulder and back. The body has been kept in the morgue for autopsy.
