Government Cancels Recruitment of Music and Physical Education Teachers in Primary Schools
Within two months, the government has amended the Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules. In the revised regulations, the provision for appointing teachers in music and physical education subjects has been removed. The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education published the revised regulations in the gazette yesterday, Sunday.
Earlier, on August 28, the Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules, 2025 were issued. Along with other subjects, this regulation included provisions for recruiting teachers in music and physical education.
Following that, leaders of various religion-based political parties demanded at different meetings, seminars, and protest rallies that religion teachers be appointed instead of music teachers. They also threatened to launch a movement if the recruitment of music teachers was not canceled.
In the August version of the regulations, four types of teaching positions were mentioned: Head Teacher, Assistant Teacher, Assistant Teacher (Music), and Assistant Teacher (Physical Education). In the revised version, only two positions have been retained — Head Teacher and Assistant Teacher.
