Cold Conditions to Intensify Over the Next Five Days, Fog to Increase

Cold conditions are expected to intensify further across the country. According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures are likely to gradually decrease over the next five days, while fog density from dawn to morning may increase. As a result, the sensation of cold may become more severe, and there is a possibility of temporary disruptions to road, river, and air transportation.

Meteorologists said that an extended portion of the subcontinental high-pressure system is positioned over West Bengal and adjacent areas. At the same time, the seasonal normal low-pressure system remains active over the southern Bay of Bengal, contributing to the increasing impact of cold weather across the country.

Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman stated that until 6:00 pm on Friday (26 December), the sky across the country may remain partly cloudy, although the weather is expected to stay dry. However, from midnight to morning, moderate to dense fog may form in different regions of the country, which in some places may persist until noon.

According to the five-day forecast of the Meteorological Department, night temperatures may decrease by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius over the coming days. Although daytime temperatures may not fall significantly, the foggy conditions are likely to intensify the feeling of cold. The cold may be felt more strongly, especially in the northern and northwestern regions and river basin areas.

During the past 24 hours, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 10.2 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi. In Dhaka, the minimum temperature dropped to 14 degrees Celsius, which is about two degrees lower than the previous day. The highest temperature was recorded at 29.8 degrees Celsius in Teknaf.

Meteorologists noted that although there is no immediate possibility of a cold wave, temperatures in some areas may temporarily fall further. Due to fog, vehicle movement may slow during the morning hours, and caution is advised for air and river transportation.

The Meteorological Department stated that the weather across the country will remain mainly dry over the next five days. However, fog is expected to persist during the early morning hours, and the feeling of cold may intensify further.
