Bangladesh Shivers as Mild Cold Wave Hits 15 Regions, Dense Fog Disrupts Transport

The country is shivering in the cold. A mild cold wave is passing over 15 regions of the country. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department's long-term forecast, two to three cold waves may occur this month, of which one to two could be intense.

The mild cold wave passing over 15 regions has caused extreme discomfort for the general public. Due to the piercing cold and dense fog in the early morning, day laborers and low-income people are unable to leave for work. Children and the elderly are suffering from the severity of the cold, while the number of patients with colds, coughs, and respiratory problems has increased. In some northern areas, people living in open spaces are trying to keep warm by lighting fires. At the same time, fog has disrupted road and river transport, creating additional problems for working people and goods transportation.

The Meteorological Department stated that mild cold waves are passing over Tangail, Faridpur, Aricha, Narayanganj, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Ishwardi, Bogura, Badalgachhi, Tarash, Baghbari, Dinajpur, Jessore, Chuadanga, and Kumarkhali, and this may continue.

According to the long-term forecast of the Meteorological Department, in January, two to three mild cold waves and one to two moderate cold waves may occur. Regarding fog, it is said that from midnight to morning, moderate to dense fog may occur in river basins and other areas, while elsewhere, light to moderate fog may be present. Sometimes the fog may persist until afternoon. Due to dense fog, the difference between day and night temperatures decreases, increasing the feeling of cold.

In the forecast for the next 24 hours from 9 a.m. today, the weather may remain clear across the country with temporarily partly cloudy skies. From midnight to morning, moderate to dense fog may occur nationwide and may continue in some areas until afternoon. Dense fog may temporarily disrupt air travel, inland water transport, and road communication systems. Day and night temperatures across the country are expected to remain almost unchanged. Due to foggy weather, the feeling of cold may continue nationwide.

In the last 24 hours, the lowest temperature recorded in the country was 8.4°C in Ishwardi and 13.2°C in Dhaka.
