In a grand ceremony in Washington, USA, the draw for the 48 countries participating in the 2026 World Cup has been completed. Many were keen to see where world champions Argentina and Brazil would be placed. Supporters were at least relieved to know that both football powerhouses have landed in relatively easier groups.
In Group J, along with Argentina, are Austria, Algeria, and first-time qualifiers Jordan. And in Group C are Brazil, Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti.
The draw ceremony was conducted by former England defender Rio Ferdinand. He was assisted by renowned host Samantha Johnson.
The first three balls from the three pots were drawn by the three heads of the three host nations—Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, and the United States President Donald Trump.
The President of the United States was awarded the FIFA Peace Prize for bringing a message of global peace for the first time. FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the peace medal to Trump.
The draw was held today. Information about which match will take place in which stadium will be announced in FIFA’s global broadcast at 11 p.m. Bangladesh time on Saturday.
The World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19. Matches will take place in a total of 16 stadiums across the three countries.
