Bangladesh Journalists Face Growing Threats for Doing Their Job

Bangladeshi journalists say they are working under extreme fear and pressure as threats against the media continue to rise. Many reporters claim they are being targeted simply for doing their professional duty, facing harassment, intimidation, and even death threats.

Tensions escalated after violent protests led to attacks on major newspaper offices, where journalists were trapped inside burning buildings for hours. Although no fatalities were reported, those present described the experience as terrifying and life-threatening.

Since then, journalists across the country say they are under constant surveillance and pressure, both online and offline. Many have reduced their public activity, fearing further retaliation. Media professionals warn that the growing hostility toward the press is creating a dangerous environment for free and independent journalism.

Press freedom advocates say these developments pose a serious threat to democratic values and the right to free expression in Bangladesh.
