Journalist Manjurul Alam Panna has alleged that he is being publicly threatened with murder. Today, Friday, at 11:18 a.m., he made this allegation in a post on his personal Facebook account. In a one-sentence post, he wrote, “I am being publicly threatened with murder.”
Earlier, on November 12, journalist Manjurul Alam (Panna) was released on bail in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Before that, at around 12:45 a.m. on August 28, a case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act against former minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui, Dhaka University law professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon, journalist Manjurul Alam, and 16 others.
That morning, Abdul Latif Siddiqui, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, and others went to the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) to participate in a roundtable discussion. The event titled “Our Great Liberation War and the Constitution of Bangladesh” was organized by a platform called “Moncho 71.” Professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman delivered his speech first at the discussion.
After Sheikh Hafizur Rahman finished his speech, a group of people entered the DRU auditorium with a procession. At that time, they tore down the roundtable discussion banner while chanting various slogans and confined the participants inside. At around 12:15 p.m., a team of police (DMP) arrived, and the group handed over at least 16 individuals, including Latif Siddiqui, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, and journalist Manjurul Alam, to the police.
