Journalist Hayat Uddin Killed in Attack by Miscreants in Bagerhat

Journalist and political activist ASM Hayat Uddin (42), a staff reporter for the local daily newspaper Bhorer Chetna, was Killed in Attack by Miscreants in Bagerhat. The tragic incident took place on Friday evening (October 3) in the Harikhali area of the municipal town.

 

According to local sources, Hayat Uddin was attacked by miscreants with sharp weapons. Locals quickly rescued him in critical condition and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead upon arrival.

 

The deceased, Hayat Uddin, was the son of Nizam Uddin from the Harikhali area of Bagerhat municipal town. Alongside journalism, he was also actively involved in politics. Recently, he had contested for the position of Organizing Secretary of the Bagerhat Municipal BNP.

 

Bagerhat Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmud-ul-Hasan confirmed the incident. He said, "Journalist and BNP leader Hayat Uddin has been killed in a terrorist attack. His body has been kept at Khulna Medical College Hospital. Multiple police teams are working to uncover the motive behind the murder."

 

Police said that initially, it is unclear who carried out the attack and why. However, it is suspected that political or personal rivalry may have been involved. An investigation is ongoing.

 

The brutal murder of a journalist and political activist has cast a shadow of grief among local journalists and the general public. Colleagues have demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers.

 

Concerns over the safety of journalists in Bangladesh have existed for a long time. The killing of Hayat Uddin has reignited those concerns.
