Bangladeshi Journalists in London Condemn Attacks on Media Outlets Back Home

Bangladeshi community journalists and members of the diaspora in London have strongly condemned recent attacks on media outlets in Bangladesh, describing them as a serious threat to press freedom and democratic values.

At a protest held in East London, journalists, media workers and community activists expressed deep concern over incidents of vandalism, arson and intimidation targeting newspaper offices, including Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. Speakers said such coordinated attacks on the media were unprecedented and unacceptable.

The protesters demanded an immediate, impartial investigation into the incidents and called for those responsible to be brought to justice. They warned that continued attacks on journalists and media institutions would undermine freedom of expression and the public’s right to information.

Participants at the gathering emphasised that disagreement and criticism are natural in a democratic society, but violence against the press can never be justified. They also highlighted the growing risks faced by journalists in Bangladesh and urged authorities to ensure their safety.

Members of the Bangladeshi diaspora reaffirmed their solidarity with journalists back home and said they would continue to raise their voices internationally against any attempts to silence independent media.
