Dengue Situation Worsens: Four Dead, 745 New Cases Across Bangladesh

Health officials on Thursday reported 745 new dengue cases and four deaths recorded in the past 24 hours.

 

A spokesperson for the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said, “We recorded four dengue-related deaths in the 24 hours ending at 8:00am on Thursday,” adding that 745 fresh infections were reported during the same period.

 

According to DGHS data, one death occurred in the Chattogram division, two in the Dhaka South City Corporation area, and one in the Mymensingh division.

 

Of the newly infected patients, 125 were hospitalised in the Barishal division, 89 in Chattogram, 154 in Dhaka division outside the capital, 127 in Dhaka South City Corporation, and 116 in Dhaka North City Corporation. Additionally, 32 cases were reported in Khulna, 53 in Mymensingh, 48 in Rajshahi, and one in the Sylhet division, the DGHS statement said.

 

Since the beginning of this year’s dengue outbreak, Bangladesh has so far recorded 353 deaths, with a total of 88,457 reported infections.

 

Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives and infected 101,214 people across the country.
