A human rights organisation has expressed serious concern over a sharp rise in violence against minority communities in Bangladesh, warning that the incidents reflect a widespread and alarming trend across the country rather than isolated cases.
According to the organisation, a significant number of minority individuals have lost their lives in various forms of violence over recent months. These incidents have been reported across multiple regions and include cases of murder, lynching, and deaths under suspicious circumstances. The pattern of violence has created fear and insecurity among minority communities regarding their safety and future.
The rights body noted that attacks on minorities have continued consistently, affecting homes, businesses, places of worship, and land. Reported incidents include killings, arson, looting, physical assaults, unlawful detentions, and other forms of intimidation. The situation has been described as deeply distressing for minority populations living in different parts of the country.
The organisation further highlighted that the violence has persisted into recent weeks, with fresh incidents involving brutal attacks, property destruction, and severe abuse. It warned that without effective intervention, the continued targeting of minorities could further destabilise social harmony.
Calling for urgent attention, the rights body urged authorities to ensure accountability, protect vulnerable communities, and take concrete measures to prevent further violence and discrimination against minorities in Bangladesh.
