An attack took place at the Panbari Sarbojonin Shiva Temple in Rangpur on Thursday dawn, 22 November, when a group of unidentified assailants vandalised the temple’s main Shiva idol. According to local residents, the attackers entered the temple in a planned manner, destroyed the idol, and fled the scene immediately.
Following the incident, locals expressed deep anger and demanded stronger security measures for the temple. Members of the temple committee said they rushed to the spot after hearing sudden noises at dawn and discovered signs of vandalism.
Law enforcement officials have inspected the site and have begun an investigation to identify those responsible.
Residents stated that an attack on a place of worship is not just an assault on a single temple—it is a direct threat to communal harmony and the sense of security within the community. They called for the swift arrest and strict punishment of the perpetrators.
Bangladesh is a multi-religious country, and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities is an essential part of its constitutional values. The attack has raised concerns at the local level, prompting calls for effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
