Humayun Kabir, a leader of the Narayanganj Metropolitan Awami League, has died while undergoing treatment in custody.

The Narayanganj District Jail Superintendent, Forkan Wahid, said that he passed away on Tuesday morning at the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in the capital.

The deceased Awami League leader, Humayun Kabir (55), was the son of the late Chan Sharif from Gola Chapar area of the city. He served as the vice president of the 13th Ward Committee of the Metropolitan Awami League and president of the local Panchayet Committee.

Superintendent Forkan Wahid said that Humayun fell ill in jail around 9:00 pm on Monday night and was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital. Doctors there advised transferring him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

He added that, following medical advice, Humayun was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital via Dhaka Central Jail, and later taken to the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases. There, he died while receiving treatment.

“Earlier, the Awami League leader had a history of heart disease. He was immediately taken to the hospital as soon as he complained of chest pain,” Forkan added.
