Protesters Gather in London Over Violence Against Hindus in Bangladesh

A large group of British Hindus and members of the Bangladeshi-origin Hindu community gathered outside the Bangladesh High Commission in London on Saturday to protest against what they described as ongoing violence and persecution of religious minorities in Bangladesh, particularly Hindus. The demonstrators organised the rally under the banner “Justice for Hindus”, calling for international attention and action to protect minority rights and ensure accountability for recent attacks.

Protesters waved placards and chanted slogans such as “Hindu Lives Matter”, and some participants recited the Hanuman Chalisa as part of the demonstration. Digital screens and vans displayed information highlighting incidents of alleged violence and discrimination against Hindus in Bangladesh, drawing attention to their concerns.

Organisers said the crowd included students, working professionals, parents with their children, elderly activists, and leaders from interfaith organisations, all united in their demand for greater protection of religious minorities and stronger international engagement. They urged the British government and global human rights bodies to call for investigations into reported abuses and to press the interim government in Bangladesh to uphold constitutional guarantees and protect vulnerable communities.

The protest was partly sparked by outrage over the killing of a Hindu man earlier this month, an incident that has drawn widespread condemnation. Participants also condemned the recent arrest of interfaith activist Chinmaya Prabhu, describing it as unjust. They accused extremists of targeting minority communities, contributing to fear and insecurity.

Demonstrators said their aim was not only to highlight recent events but also to raise broader awareness of what they see as a pattern of discrimination and violence against Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists in Bangladesh. They called on international leaders to speak out and act to prevent further abuse and to safeguard the rights and lives of minority citizens.

British police maintained a presence at the protest to ensure it remained peaceful, and there were moments when additional groups arrived, reflecting wider tensions within diaspora politics. However, the main focus of the rally remained on urging justice, safety, and equality for minorities facing persecution abroad.
