Despite challenges to human rights in Bangladesh, progress is possible: United Kingdom

On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, the United Kingdom has reiterated its continued commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in Bangladesh. The British High Commission in Dhaka stated this in a message yesterday. The statement said, “Although there are challenges in Bangladesh, progress in the human rights situation is possible through dialogue, accountability, and coordinated efforts.”

The High Commission’s message said, “Human rights are the foundation of Bangladesh’s future prosperity and stability. The United Kingdom wants to work with partners to build such a future where every individual will enjoy dignity, equality, and justice.”

It further stated, “Human rights strengthen security by building resilient democratic institutions and an active civil society that stand against misinformation and corruption. This accelerates development, ensures accountable services, and protects minorities. At the same time, it plays an important role in preventing violence and instability.”

The message said, “Human rights are also essential in the field of climate action, because they empower affected communities in decision-making and ensure fair and transparent solutions to protect lives and livelihoods.”
