Prominent musician, Cultural Affairs Secretary of Pabna District Awami League and General Secretary of the District Awami Shilpigoshthi, Prolay Chaki, is no more. He breathed his last on Sunday (January 11) at around 8:30 pm while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Prolay Chaki was also serving as Joint Secretary (Culture) of Banomali Shilpakala Kendra. He was the eldest son of late Lakshmi Das Chaki, a once-prominent cultural organizer and actor of Pabna.
It is known that on the morning of December 16, Prolay Chaki was arrested by the DB police from his Pathartala residence in connection with a case filed over the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Since then, he had been detained at Pabna District Jail.
On Thursday night (January 9), while in jail, he suffered a stroke. The following day, Friday, he was taken to Pabna General Hospital, where the attending physician advised transferring him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He later died there on Sunday night while undergoing treatment.
The news of Prolay Chaki’s death has cast a pall of gloom over the cultural arena as well as among his acquaintances and well-wishers.
On Monday (January 12), an autopsy was completed at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Later in the afternoon, his body was brought back to Pabna. Upon receiving the news of his death, relatives and well-wishers rushed to his residence that very night. In the evening, his last rites were performed at the Pabna Maha Smashan.
Following his death, deep condolences were expressed by Bangladesh Hindu Mahajot Pabna District Unit, Hindu Jubo Mahajot, Hindu Chhatra Jot, Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad Pabna District Unit, Rabidas Community, Shri Shri Pabna Maha Smashan Committee, Pabna Musical Bands Association, and various other social and cultural organizations.
