Worker Beaten to Death in Mymensingh Over Allegations of ‘Derogatory Remarks’ About Religion

Police have said that a worker was beaten to death in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh on allegations of making derogatory remarks about religion.

 

The incident took place at around 9:00 pm on Thursday (18 December) at the Pioneer Knit Composite factory in the Dubaliapara area of the upazila. The deceased, Dipu Chandra Das, was a worker at the factory. He was the son of Rabi Chandra Das of Tarakanda.

 

Police and local sources said that after the incident, some agitated people set fire to the body of the deceased after placing it beside the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway. As a result, vehicular movement on both sides of the highway came to a halt, and extreme tension has been created in the area.

 

Confirming the matter, Bhaluka Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abdul Malek said that after the incident, an agitated crowd set fire to the body of the deceased after placing it beside the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway. As a result, traffic on both sides of the highway was stopped. Tension has been created in the area. Police are trying to bring the situation under control.
