Deadly Wedding House Explosion in Pakistan Kills 8 Including Newlyweds

At least eight people, including the newlywed couple, were killed in a devastating explosion at a wedding house in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. At least 12 others were seriously injured in the incident.

According to British media outlet BBC, the explosion occurred at around 7:00 am local time on Sunday (January 11).

The BBC report said that the intensity of the explosion caused the roof of the house to collapse and a large portion of the wall to be blown away. As a result, several family members and guests present at the wedding ceremony were killed.

Pakistan’s media outlet Geo News, citing police sources, reported that in the explosion that took place early Sunday morning, the bride and groom along with family members lost their lives. In addition, two neighbors were also killed in the explosion.

Local administrator Sahibzada Yusuf said that a warning regarding a possible explosion had already been issued early Sunday morning. Police began an investigation immediately after the incident.

He further said that several nearby houses were also damaged in the explosion. To ensure smooth emergency rescue and medical operations, several roads in the area have been temporarily closed.

Emergency service workers initially suspect that gas accumulated inside the house due to a gas cylinder or gas line leak, which may have caused the explosion. At least three more houses in the vicinity of the house were severely damaged as a result.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, condolences were conveyed to the families of the deceased, and health authorities were instructed to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured.

At the same time, the Prime Minister ordered a full investigation into the explosion.
