At least 51 people have been killed in an Israeli attack on a girls’ school in the city of Minab in Hormozgan Province in southern Iran, according to state media. On the same day, another school was attacked east of the capital, Tehran.
According to a report by the state news agency, the death toll at the Minab school surpassed 40 after the attack and was later confirmed to be more than 50. Videos and images from the scene were broadcast on Iran’s state television.
Meanwhile, at least two students were killed in another attack on a school in eastern Tehran, according to Mehr News Agency.
Reporting from Tehran, Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed Val said the Minab attack is being viewed as a strike on a civilian target. The United States and Israel say they are targeting only military facilities and the Iranian government, not the people. However, civilian casualties could further complicate the situation.
Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education said that during the 12-day war between the United States and Israel in June 2025, thousands of civilians were killed and injured, and much infrastructure was damaged.
In the wake of the latest attack, Iran has indicated it may raise allegations of violations of international law. However, there has been no immediate comment from Israel regarding the attack.
