A suicide attack targeting the headquarters of Pakistan’s paramilitary border force in Peshawar killed three members of the Federal Constabulary on Monday, police confirmed to AFP.
Peshawar police chief Mian Saeed said the blast occurred at the entrance gate, where three FC personnel were killed and four others injured. He added that one attacker detonated explosives while security forces shot and killed the remaining two separatists.
The assault took place around 8:10 am (0310 GMT) on Saddar Road, one of Peshawar’s busiest areas, just before the morning rush. An AFP correspondent reported seeing body parts of a suspected bomber near the main gate, which was heavily damaged by shrapnel.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Zulfiqar Hameed told AFP the operation had concluded and that teams were conducting a clearance sweep to check for any unexploded devices.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The region, which borders Afghanistan, has experienced rising militant activity since the Taliban regained control of Kabul in 2021.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and praised the swift response of security personnel for preventing greater loss of life. He called for the perpetrators to be identified and brought to justice, vowing that Pakistan would defeat those attempting to undermine national stability.
