President Donald Trump has stated that the United States is financially benefiting from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, contrasting his administration’s strategy with the extensive military aid packages provided under President Joe Biden.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, Trump referred to a July agreement in which the U.S. sells weapons to NATO allies, who in turn deliver the equipment to Ukraine.
“We’re not spending any more on the war. We’re actually being paid for everything we’ve sent, unlike Biden. He gave them $350 billion — it was shocking,” Trump said, adding that “the war is being funded by NATO.”
The president emphasized that while he does not want to profit from the war, the U.S. is nevertheless earning money through military sales.
“I don’t want to make money on that war, but we are actually making money because they’re buying our equipment,” Trump said.
Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, calling him “the greatest salesman on Earth,” and reiterated his long-held position that NATO’s European members should shoulder the primary responsibility for supporting Ukraine.
Earlier this year, Trump reopened direct negotiations with Russia, though he recently admitted that finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict has been more challenging than expected.
Meanwhile, Russia continues to assert that Western military support cannot prevent its eventual victory, arguing that NATO members are effectively participants in the war.
