Iran’s security forces have taken a hardline stance to suppress the protests. Live ammunition is being fired at protesters. It is feared that nearly two thousand people have been killed in the last 48 hours. The number may be even higher.
On Sunday (11 January), London-based news outlet Iran International reported this information.
The media outlet said that severe crackdowns are underway against protesters while the internet has been completely shut down.
Meanwhile, a video sent from Kahrizak in southern Tehran shows several bodies lying on the ground and a number of bodies placed in body bags. Eyewitnesses said there are dozens of bodies there. Additionally, several more bodies were seen lying near an industrial shed.
Earlier, videos sent from Fardis, Karaj, and Al-Ghadir Hospital in eastern Tehran also showed bodies lying on the ground. This indicates that the harsh crackdown is not limited to specific cities; wherever protests are taking place, gunfire is being used.
Mentioning that the full picture is not emerging due to the internet shutdown, the media outlet said that analysis of the available information suggests that lethal weapons are being used in many places.
A doctor from the northern city of Rasht told Iran International that at least 70 bodies have been brought to just one hospital.
Sources said that the highest levels of violence are occurring in different parts of Tehran and in Fardis, Karaj. In addition, reports are coming in of widespread gunfire against protesters from other areas as well.
Due to the general internet shutdown, the media outlet said that several videos of killings are being sent via Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet.
