On Tuesday, the President of Bangladesh approved the permanent appointments of 22 additional judges to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court. These judges were initially sworn in for two-year terms in October 2024, and their regularisation marks their transition to permanent positions.
One judge, Debasish Roy Chowdhury, was excluded from the regularisation process because he has not yet reached the minimum age requirement of 45 for a permanent judgeship. The appointments will take effect once the judges are sworn in, following notification from the Law Ministry.
The Supreme Judicial Appointment Council, chaired by the Chief Justice, recommended the regularisation under the 2025 Judges’ Appointment Ordinance. This move strengthens the judiciary and ensures continuity in the High Court Division, providing stability to the legal system.
