Twenty-one of the 22 judges permanently appointed to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court have taken their oath of office. One judge, who was ill, is scheduled to take the oath at a later date, according to the Registrar’s office.
The ceremony took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Judges Lounge of the Supreme Court, where Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed administered the oath to the 21 judges. Among those sworn in were Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumdar, Justice Md. Monsur Alam, Justice Syed Zahed Monsur, Justice K. M. Rasheduzzaman Raja, Justice Md. Zabid Hossain, Justice Mubina Asaf, Justice Kazi Waliul Islam, Justice Ainun Nahar Siddika, Justice Md. Abdul Mannan, Justice Tamanna Rahman Khalidi, Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmood, Justice Md. Hamidur Rahman, Justice Nasrin Akter, Justice Sathika Hossain, Justice Syed Mohammad Tazrul Hossain, Justice Md. Toufique Inam, Justice Yusuf Abdullah Sumon, Justice Sheikh Tahsin Ali, Justice Foyez Ahmed, Justice Md. Sagir Hossain, and Justice Shikdar Mahmudur Razi.
Chief Justice Syed Enayet Hossain could not attend due to hospitalization and will take his oath later. The ceremony was also attended by the Vice Presidents of both divisions of the Supreme Court, the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association A M Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman, and the spouses of the judges. The oath-taking was conducted by the Registrar General Muhammad Habibur Rahman.
On October 9, 2024, the government had appointed 23 persons as additional judges of the High Court, of whom 22 were confirmed as permanent through a notification issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs. The appointments became effective following the oath-taking ceremony.
