High Court Orders Probe into Discriminatory Ibn Sina Job Circular

The High Court on Monday directed the authorities to investigate a job circular issued by Ibn Sina Pharmaceutical Industry PLC that allegedly contained discriminatory conditions.

A bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar passed the order following a writ petition challenging the legality of the circular published on January 26, 2026. The advertisement, which was for a position in the legal affairs department, reportedly restricted applications to male and practising Muslim candidates.

The petitioner argued that the conditions were discriminatory and prevented eligible candidates from applying based on gender and religion. The court ordered the government to examine the matter and take necessary steps to ensure that such discriminatory provisions are removed.

The High Court also asked the authorities to formulate and implement proper recruitment guidelines to prevent discrimination in hiring. It directed the concerned officials to submit a report within three months detailing the measures taken.

In addition, the court issued a rule questioning why the failure to prevent discriminatory hiring practices should not be declared unlawful and unconstitutional. It also sought an explanation as to why all public and private organisations should not be required to adopt non-discriminatory recruitment policies.
