The family and police could not confirm whether it was a murder or suicide.
Inspector (Investigation) of Bandar Police Station, Zakir Hossain, said, “On Sunday evening, Shamim was found lying in a bloody state inside a grass field near Sagor-tir with the tendons of his hands and legs cut. Some locals saw him and informed patrolling police officers. First, Halishahar police rescued him and took him to a local private hospital. From there, he was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead after examinations. Around 2 a.m., his relatives identified the body.”
Assistant Commissioner (Bandar) of the city police, Mahmudul Hasan, said, “We are investigating whether Shamim committed suicide, or someone called him out and murdered him, or if he was a victim of mugging. No clue has been found yet. The police are working on it. The family is preparing to file a case. Even the family cannot say clearly how the incident happened.”
Deputy Police Commissioner (Bandar) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, Amirul Islam, said, “In the evening, some people heard shouting and went closer. But since the tendons of his hands and legs were cut, they didn’t touch Shamim. Later, someone called 999 from the scene. Then police arrived and rescued him and took him to a private hospital in the city. From there, he was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Later, since the incident site was under Bandar Police Station, Halishahar police handed over the body to Bandar police. We are investigating the incident.”
“Speaking to an eyewitness at the scene, we learned that he asked Shamim what happened. He also took out his camera to record video. Shamim didn’t want to speak in front of the camera. When the camera was turned off, Shamim said he did it himself. An anti-cutter tool was recovered from the scene. We are verifying that statement of the eyewitness. We are gathering information. Whether it was a murder or suicide is being investigated.”
