The Entire Area Shook After a Mortar Shell Struck in Sitakunda
A mortar shell struck agricultural land in Sitakunda, Chattogram. The entire area shook with a loud explosion. The incident occurred on Tuesday (18 November) at around 11 a.m. in the Saralkandi area of Barabkunda Union of the upazila.
Sitakunda Model Police Station’s OC (Investigation) Mohammad Alamgir confirmed the matter.
Locals said that around 11 a.m., two farmers were cutting grass in the Saralkandi area of Barabkunda Union. At that time, a mortar shell coming from the east hit the agricultural land. The entire area shook with a loud explosion. The two farmers quickly left the scene. When locals informed the Sitakunda Model Police Station, police visited the spot.
Local youth Md. Rana said that the mortar shell landed right beside the two farmers who were cutting grass. They narrowly escaped death. As soon as it fell on the land, the entire area shook. Panic is now prevailing in the area.
Another youth named Liton Chandra Das said that it was fortunate the mortar shell fell on muddy soil. If it had fallen on dry ground, a bigger accident could have occurred. Besides, the area is densely populated. If it had fallen on any house, it would have caused massive damage.
