The child from Teknaf who was critically injured by gunfire fired from across the Myanmar border has died. At 9:50 am, Hujayfa Sultana Afnan died while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital. The matter was confirmed by her uncle, Mahfuzur Rahman.
Earlier, on the morning of 11 January, the child was injured by gunfire fired from Myanmar’s Rakhine State adjacent to the Bangladesh border. At that time, she was given local medical treatment.
Later, as her condition deteriorated, she was transferred via Chattogram Medical College Hospital to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka. She died there while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the security situation in Myanmar’s Rakhine State has deteriorated in recent times. Incidents of airstrikes, drone attacks, mortar shelling, and bomb explosions have increased.
In particular, the junta forces have intensified airstrikes targeting the positions of the armed group Arakan Army in and around the Maungdaw Township area. At the same time, clashes among various armed groups have made the border situation more complex.
In this situation, the impact of cross-border firing is being felt in Bangladesh’s border-adjacent localities.
