Narendra Modi on Friday held a telephone conversation with Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), regarding his party’s decisive victory in the national elections held on Thursday.
In a statement shared on his social media platform X, Modi said he was delighted to speak with Tarique Rahman and personally congratulated him on BNP’s remarkable success in the Bangladesh elections.
He added that he conveyed his best wishes and support as Rahman moves forward to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh.
Highlighting the close relationship between the two neighboring countries, Modi reaffirmed India’s continued commitment to peace, progress, and prosperity for both nations. He emphasized the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties that bind India and Bangladesh.
Earlier in the day, Modi had also issued a separate congratulatory message, praising Tarique Rahman for leading BNP to a decisive victory in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election. He noted that the outcome reflected the trust and confidence of the Bangladeshi people in Rahman’s leadership.
The Indian prime minister further stated that India would remain steadfast in its support for a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh. He expressed optimism about working closely with the new leadership to strengthen bilateral relations and advance shared development goals.
