National Election Was ‘Staged and Engineered,’ Alleges Faizul Karim

Mufti Syed Faizul Karim has alleged that the national parliamentary election was a “staged” and “engineered” election. He made the allegation while speaking at an iftar event held in honor of ulema and professionals in Barishal on Friday (27 February).

The event, held at the auditorium of Barishal Club, was presided over by Md. Lokman Hakim, President of the Barishal Metropolitan unit of Islami Andolon Bangladesh.

Mufti Faizul Karim said, “We had hoped for a free, fair, and neutral election. But that did not happen. A staged and engineered election was held in the country. Across the country, candidates of the Hand Fan symbol were deliberately defeated.”

He alleged that the results were influenced through irregularities in the electoral process.

Expressing concern over the current situation in the country, he said that people are living in insecurity. Referring to the killing of a teenage girl in Narsingdi and incidents of rape and repression in different parts of the country, he called for the swift bringing of the perpetrators under the law and ensuring exemplary punishment.

Regarding the appointment of the central bank governor, he said that a businessman has been appointed as Governor of Bangladesh Bank, claiming that the individual lacks experience in the banking sector. He expressed concern that this could put the banking sector at risk.

Warning the government, Faizul Karim said, “The money in the banks belongs to the people of this country, not to the BNP.”
