Wave of Violent Attacks Across Bangladesh in a Single Night Sparks Nationwide Fear

Bangladesh witnessed a night of widespread violence as multiple coordinated attacks were reported across the country, targeting political figures, media houses, cultural institutions, diplomatic offices, and civilians. The incidents have triggered fear and uncertainty among the public and raised serious concerns over national security and social stability.

In Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area, attackers targeted the historic residence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32. The same area also saw attacks on the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre and the renowned cultural organization Chhayanaut, causing damage to property and heightening concerns over the safety of cultural institutions.

Major media establishments were also attacked in the capital. The buildings of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, two of the country’s leading newspapers, were reportedly targeted, raising alarm over press freedom and journalist safety.

In Khulna, a journalist was shot dead in a targeted attack, according to local sources. The killing has sparked outrage within the media community and renewed calls for stronger protection of journalists.

Indian diplomatic missions were also reportedly attacked, including offices of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Khulna, raising diplomatic and security concerns.

In Chattogram, the residence of former city mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury came under attack. In Rajshahi, the local office of the Awami League was vandalized and demolished. In Bandarban, the house of former minister Bir Bahadur was set on fire, according to reports.

Meanwhile, in Uttara, Dhaka, the residence of former MP Habib was attacked. In a separate incident in Bhaluka, a young man from the Sanatan (Hindu) community was beaten to death, intensifying fears regarding the safety of minority communities.

The series of attacks, occurring within a single night across multiple regions, has created a sense of nationwide panic. Citizens are demanding swift action, accountability, and the restoration of law and order.

Law enforcement agencies have stated that investigations are underway and that those responsible will be brought to justice. However, in many cases, the identities of the attackers have not yet been confirmed.

The violent incidents have raised serious questions about political stability, freedom of expression, minority rights, and the overall security situation in Bangladesh.
