The Press Club of India has strongly condemned the recent comments made by Shafiqul Alam, spokesperson for the Chief Adviser of the Bangladesh government, targeting journalists who interviewed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In a recent social media post, Alam reportedly made derogatory remarks about both Western and Indian journalists, describing them in an offensive manner.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the Press Club of India termed the remarks “unacceptable and undignified,” especially considering Alam’s own background as a journalist. The organisation said such language is contrary to the principles of press freedom and mutual respect among media professionals.
The Press Club further urged Shafiqul Alam to withdraw his comments and issue a public apology, asserting that journalists must be allowed to work independently and without intimidation or insult.
