Allegations of Removal of Saraswati Puja Banners at Jahangirnagar University

Allegations have surfaced that two greeting banners put up on the occasion of Saraswati Puja at Jahangirnagar University have been removed. It could not be confirmed who removed the banners. The banners have not been seen on campus since yesterday, Tuesday morning. This has sparked anger among students belonging to the Sanatan (Hindu) community.

According to sources from the Sanatan Vidyarthi Sangsad, an organization of Sanatan students at the university, banners were installed at several places on the campus on January 23 to mark Saraswati Puja. However, since this morning, they have not been able to find the two banners that were hung at the university’s main gate and on the road adjacent to the Faculty of Business Studies. They have already verbally informed the university’s Proctorial Office and the Estate Office (responsible for internal asset maintenance) about the matter.

Kanak Das, president of the Sanatan Vidyarthi Sangsad, said, “We put up banners at several places on the campus on the occasion of Saraswati Puja. Unfortunately, someone has removed those banners. Similar incidents occurred in previous years as well. We strongly condemn this reprehensible act. We expect a proper investigation into this disgraceful incident and that those responsible will be brought under the maximum punishment.”
