Narendra Modi has extended warm congratulations to Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on the party’s landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
In a message on Friday (13 February), he conveyed his congratulations. Modi said that this victory reflects the immense confidence and trust of the people of Bangladesh in Tarique Rahman’s leadership.
He expressed hope that in the coming days the multifaceted relationship between the two countries would grow stronger and that both nations would work together to achieve shared development goals.
In his congratulatory message, the Indian Prime Minister clearly stated that India will always stand beside a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh. He further noted that the historical and cultural bonds between the two countries will reach new heights in the future.
He also expressed his belief that under Tarique Rahman’s visionary leadership, Bangladesh will move toward a stable and prosperous future. Essentially, this congratulatory message from the international community, delivered soon after the election results became unofficially clear, is being viewed as an important diplomatic recognition for the new BNP government.
It is worth mentioning that in the election held on 12 February, BNP secured a single-party majority, and its Chairman Tarique Rahman won by a landslide from the Dhaka and Bogura constituencies. In his message, Modi expressed interest in working closely with the new government to improve the quality of life of the people of both countries and to ensure regional security.
Diplomatic analysts believe that this swift congratulatory message from India’s Prime Minister will mark the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral relations between Dhaka and New Delhi. Through this, trade, connectivity, and development partnership between the two countries are expected to become more dynamic.
Tarique Rahman also expressed gratitude for the Indian Prime Minister’s wishes and pledged to advance relations with the neighboring country on the basis of mutual respect and equality.
Following the successful completion of the election by the current interim government, India views the return to the democratic process as a significant achievement. Narendra Modi’s congratulatory message has already been shared on BNP’s verified Facebook page and X (formerly Twitter) handle, generating widespread enthusiasm among party leaders and activists.
