Vandalism and Arson at Jatiya Party Leader Anisul Islam’s House
An incident of vandalism and arson took place at the residence of Anisul Islam Mahmud, President of the National Democratic Front (NDF) and Chairman of a faction of the Jatiya Party, in Hathazari, Chattogram. Around 11:40 pm on Friday, over a hundred people carried out the attack, vandalism, and arson. However, Anisul Islam Mahmud and his family members were not at home at the time of the incident. Two female caretakers were present in the house.
Caretaker Rokeya Begum said that over a hundred people came, threw cocktail explosives, vandalized the house, and set it on fire. Later, personnel from the Hathazari Fire Service arrived and brought the fire under control.
Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz, Additional Superintendent of Police (Hathazari Circle), Chattogram District Police, told Bangla Tribune that vandalism and arson occurred at Anisul Islam Mahmud’s residence. Eyewitnesses reported that over a hundred people came at around 11:40 pm and carried out the attack, vandalism, and arson. They rampaged for about 15 minutes. However, according to the caretaker, the attackers did not loot any items. Those involved in the incident will be identified and brought under the law.
