Russia Urges Dhaka to Ease Internal Tensions

Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Grigoryevich Khozin on Monday emphasized the need to reduce tensions in Bangladesh to ensure a conducive environment ahead of the next national election, scheduled for February 12 next year.

He also underscored the importance of easing tensions between Bangladesh and its neighbouring country India, saying that such efforts should be taken as soon as possible. While clarifying that Russia does not interfere in the bilateral relations of the two countries, the ambassador noted that it would be wise to find a way to prevent tensions from escalating beyond their current level.

According to Ambassador Khozin, bilateral relations should be built on mutual trust and confidence.

He welcomed the election date announced by the Election Commission and expressed hope that the national election would be held on schedule on February 12.

Regarding the deployment of election observers, the ambassador said that Russia is in contact with the Election Commission and is awaiting an official invitation from the EC.

The remarks were made during an interactive session held at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bangladesh.
