In the Abyei region of Sudan, six Bangladeshi peacekeepers from the United Nations peacekeeping mission have been killed in a terrorist attack on a base. Eight more Bangladeshi peacekeepers have been injured in the incident. The area is currently experiencing ongoing clashes and a state of war.
On Saturday, December 13, at around 10 PM, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that terrorists launched a sudden attack on the UN base. Intense gunfire broke out inside the base and in the surrounding areas at the time of the attack, resulting in casualties among the Bangladesh contingent.
The ISPR further stated that the injured peacekeepers are being provided immediate medical care, and their conditions are being closely monitored. Necessary measures have been taken in coordination with other units of the UN peacekeeping mission to control the situation.
Considering the overall situation in Sudan's Abyei region, the security of the Bangladesh contingent has been reinforced, and constant monitoring of the situation is being carried out, according to relevant authorities.
