Election Process Violates Constitution: 707 Lawyers Call for Boycott

A total of 707 lawyers of the Supreme Court have called for a boycott of the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, describing it as directly unconstitutional and an illegal political event. In their words, this is not an election, but rather a staged drama designed to forcibly legitimize the government, where the people’s voting rights have been deliberately buried.

In a joint statement, the lawyers said that the minimum conditions for a free election neutral administration, freedom of expression, and equal political opportunities are completely absent in the current process. They added that the state machinery has been used for partisan interests, making the electoral field one-sided from the outset.

They alleged that to suppress opposition political forces, cases, arrests, intimidation, and administrative pressure have been regularly used as tools. In such circumstances, participating in the vote means compromising the Constitution and legitimizing injustice.

The lawyers further stated that boycotting the election is not an anti-state act, but a constitutional duty to protect the Constitution, democracy, and the sovereignty of the people. “History testifies that power cannot be sustainable without public consent, and an election held under fear can never reflect the public mandate,” they added.

At the end of the statement, they urged the public to reject this ‘farce election’, saying that to save democracy, there is no alternative but to take a peaceful yet firm stand against the illegal process.

The statement also noted that fear, killings, false cases, administrative control, and one-sided use of state machinery are severely hindering the people’s free expression. They claimed the interim government is acting like an active participant in the election process instead of serving as a neutral administrator, which has raised serious doubts about the election.

They also raised questions about the voter list, stating that it has not been properly updated, and that the election is being held by including fake and deceased voters, which deeply undermines the transparency and credibility of the election. They also highlighted serious allegations of pre-arranged manipulation and irregularities in postal ballot systems.

The lawyers said that advancing the election without an independent and credible investigation into these allegations makes the neutrality of the Election Commission not only questionable but inconsistent with the core purpose of Article 118 of the Constitution.

“In this context, participating in the election process means giving silent consent to unjust and unconstitutional practices something we cannot do as conscious citizens. We reject violence, but we reject silence even more strongly.”
They said the legal community has taken this stance to restore democracy.
