The Home Adviser, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, said that law-enforcement agencies have been given strict instructions to thwart the Awami League’s announced programme — “Dhaka Blockade” — scheduled for November 13. The Awami League is a party whose political activities are currently banned.
He made the remarks on Wednesday after a meeting with members of the law-enforcement agencies in Gazipur ahead of the upcoming national election.
The Home Adviser said that if any Awami League leaders or activists, who are currently out on bail, are found involved in any criminal activities, tougher action will be taken against them. “The people are now focused on the election; no one will be able to obstruct that,” he added.
At the same time, he urged journalists to help counter rumors being spread by the neighboring country, India.
Regarding the forthcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Adviser also said that measures have been taken to increase the number of police personnel in Gazipur to ensure security and order.
