US Ambassador Brent Christensen Arrives in Dhaka

The new United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent Christensen, has arrived in Dhaka to assume his duties. The US Embassy officially confirmed his arrival in Dhaka on Saturday (January 10). In a post published on the embassy’s X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook pages, he was welcomed.

Quoting Ambassador Brent Christensen, the post said that Bangladesh is a country with which he is already closely familiar. He expressed great pleasure at returning to Dhaka once again. He said he looks forward to further deepening and strengthening bilateral relations between the United States and Bangladesh by leading a strong team composed of American and local staff working in Dhaka. At the same time, Christensen reaffirmed his commitment to working toward the policy objectives of US President Donald Trump and to helping make the United States safer, stronger, and more prosperous.

In September last year, US President Donald Trump nominated career diplomat Brent Christensen as the new US Ambassador to Bangladesh. Subsequently, the US Senate approved his appointment in December. He is assuming responsibility as the 18th US Ambassador to Bangladesh and has succeeded former ambassador Peter Haas.

According to information from the US Department of State, Brent Christensen is a senior officer of the United States Foreign Service and a member of the Senior Foreign Service Counsel. He previously served as Political and Economic Counselor at the US Embassy in Dhaka from 2019 to 2021. As a result, he has direct experience with Bangladesh.

In addition, from 2022 to 2025, he worked as a foreign policy adviser at the United States Strategic Command. Throughout his diplomatic career, he has also served in several important postings, including Manila, San Salvador, Riyadh, and Ho Chi Minh City.

It is noteworthy that earlier, from March 2022 to April 2024, Peter Haas served as the US Ambassador to Bangladesh. After his departure, the ambassadorial post remained vacant for some time. During that period, Tracy Ann Jacobson handled the regular diplomatic responsibilities of the US Embassy as Chargé d’Affaires.
