The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has stated that the death of Shamsuzzaman Dablu, general secretary of the Jibannagar Municipal BNP in Chuadanga, was unintended, tragic, and in no way acceptable.
In connection with the incident, the army personnel who took part in the operation have been withdrawn to the cantonment, and a high-level investigation committee has been formed. The ISPR notification also said that legal action will be taken against those found responsible in accordance with army law.
These details were shared in a post published on the ISPR’s verified page on Tuesday (January 13) afternoon.
The post stated, “On January 12 at approximately 11:00 pm, based on specific intelligence information, a special operation was conducted by the joint forces in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district with the aim of recovering illegal weapons. During the operation, Md Shamsuzzaman alias Dablu (50) was detained from a pharmacy shop adjacent to the Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex on allegations of possessing illegal weapons. Later, based on information provided by the detained individual, the patrol team conducted a search at the pharmacy and recovered one 9mm pistol, one magazine, and four rounds of ammunition. After the operation, the detained individual suddenly fell ill and became unconscious, and he was quickly taken to the Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex. Subsequently, at approximately 12:25 am, the on-duty physician declared him dead.”
The ISPR said the incident was unintended, tragic, and in no way acceptable. The camp commander of the concerned camp and all army personnel involved in the operation have already been withdrawn to the cantonment, and a high-level investigation committee has been formed to ascertain the exact cause of the incident. Appropriate legal action will be taken against those found guilty in accordance with army law.
