MPs’ Oath at 10 AM, Cabinet Ministers’ Oath at 4 PM on Tuesday

The oath-taking ceremony of newly elected members of parliament (MPs) will be held on Tuesday (February 17) at 10:00 AM at the South Plaza of the National Parliament building in the capital. On the same day, at 4:00 PM, the oath-taking of cabinet members will take place at the same venue, according to Asif Nazrul, Adviser on Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.

He told reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday (February 15). Asif Nazrul stated that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin will administer the oath to the newly elected MPs. On the other hand, the oath of cabinet members will be administered by the President.

Regarding the cabinet oath-taking ceremony, Asif Nazrul mentioned in response to a journalist’s question that foreign ministers from SAARC countries have been invited.

According to tradition, MPs usually take their oaths inside the National Parliament building, while cabinet ministers are sworn in at Bangabhaban. However, this time, following the preference of the party assuming government responsibilities, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the oath-taking ceremony will be held in the parliament premises.

A source from the Cabinet Division said that since independence, all government oath-taking ceremonies have been conducted at Bangabhaban.
