Detention of MBCB Executive Triggers Nationwide Mobile Shop Shutdown

The Business Community Bangladesh (MBCB) has announced that mobile phone sales shops across the country will remain closed. The organization made this announcement at a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Wednesday (19 November).

At the press conference, speakers said, “If the association’s secretary Piyas is not released by today, they will launch a strict nationwide movement.” They also threatened to “bring the country to a standstill.”

Speakers at the press conference said, “All mobile phone shops across the country will remain closed in protest of the abduction of Sumashtech’s Chief Executive Abu Sayeed Piyas by the Detective Police. If the association's secretary Piyas is not released by today, they will embark on a strict nationwide movement.”

Last night, it was alleged that Sumashtech's Chief Executive Officer and smartphone and gadget businessman Abu Sayeed Piyas was taken away by the Detective Police (DB). A family member of Piyas confirmed the matter.

Piyas’s wife, Sumaiya Chowdhury, claimed that around 3 a.m. last night, DB police picked up her husband from their residence in the Mirpur-1 area. She also stated that the DB personnel confiscated Piyas’s mobile phone.
