Brent Christensen, the new US Ambassador to Bangladesh, has arrived in Dhaka.
Foreign ministry officials said that he landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday evening.
This is not the first time Christensen has come to Bangladesh as a diplomat. Four years ago, he served as the Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs at the US Embassy in Dhaka.
In September last year, US President Donald Trump nominated Christensen as the “Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary” to Bangladesh. He subsequently received approval from the US Senate last month.
In the meantime, the US Embassy disclosed two days ago that he had taken the oath as ambassador.
On that day, a Facebook post by the US Embassy in Dhaka stated, “The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka is pleased to welcome Brent Christensen as the new Ambassador to Bangladesh following his swearing-in.”
The post also included Christensen’s reaction.
He said, “I am thrilled to return to Bangladesh, a country I know very well. I am excited to lead a strong team of American and local staff at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka to further strengthen the relationship between the United States and Bangladesh, advance President Trump’s objectives, and work tirelessly every day to make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous.”
Senior US State Department official Brent Christensen has succeeded Peter Haas at the Dhaka mission. He is the eighteenth US Ambassador to Dhaka.
