Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Monday said that India wants to see free, fair, inclusive, and participatory elections in Bangladesh held as soon as possible.
He emphasized that India is prepared to work with any democratically elected government that emerges through a credible electoral process.
Misri made the remarks during an interaction with a visiting delegation from the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi.
The session was attended by senior officials from the MEA, along with DCAB President AKM Moinuddin and General Secretary Md Arifuzzaman Mamun.
In the nearly hour-long discussion, the Indian Foreign Secretary addressed a wide range of questions related to bilateral ties, border management, water-sharing agreements, and issues concerning former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently residing in India.
Acknowledging certain ongoing matters in the bilateral relationship, Misri noted that such complexities are "natural in any long-standing partnership."
The DCAB delegation is currently on an official visit to India as part of a media exchange initiative.
