President Pays Tribute at the National Martyrs’ Memorial on the Great Victory Day

Those whose blood brought an end to two decades of Pakistani rule and gave rise to an independent Bangladesh on the world map—the nation is remembering with deep reverence the heroic sons on the 54th anniversary of the Bengalis’ victory in the Liberation War.

On Tuesday morning at 6:35 a.m., President Md. Sahabuddin paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War by laying a wreath at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar. Later, at 6:56 a.m., Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus paid homage by placing flowers at the National Martyrs’ Memorial.

At that time, a smartly turned-out contingent from the three armed services presented a state salute to the President and the Chief Adviser. After laying the wreaths, the President and the Chief Adviser stood silently for a while in front of the altar of the martyrs. Following the tribute, they signed the visitors’ book of the memorial.

After that, under the leadership of Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Protik, members of the families of the Bir Sreshtha, war-wounded freedom fighters, and valiant freedom fighters laid wreaths. In addition, foreign diplomats, various political, social, and cultural organizations, and people from different walks of life paid their respects to the martyrs.

After the VIPs completed paying homage, the National Martyrs’ Memorial was opened to the general public. With flags and flowers in hand, a massive crowd poured into the memorial premises; the martyrs’ altar became filled with flowers.
