Bangladesh Court Sentences Sheikh Hasina to Death for ‘Crimes Against Humanity’

In a case regarding crimes against humanity committed during the anti-discrimination student movement in July–August, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal have been sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal.

 

On Monday (17 November), the verdict was announced at International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Chairman Judge Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder.

 

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, along with other prosecutors, appeared on behalf of the prosecution in the tribunal. On the other hand, lawyer Md. Amir Hossain appeared on behalf of the absconding accused.

 

In this case, the prosecution brought five charges of crimes against humanity against three individuals. The formal charges total 8,747 pages, including 2,018 pages of evidence sources, 4,005 pages of seizure lists and documentary evidence, and 2,724 pages detailing the list of martyrs.
